“Endless Night”
Author’s Notes:
The miracle of the Christmas story is very familiar to most of us. As the Gospels tell us, Mary delivers a baby in a stable with only animals and her fiancé, Joseph, at her side. We also know that the baby Mary carries and delivers is the Son of God. What we do not hear about is the rite of childbirth that Mary, estimated to be 14 years old, endures.
Mary and Joseph were before their time as men did not witness or participate in childbirth until the 20th century. Mary and Joseph had no choice in the matter, they had to support each other in both the emotional and physical sense.
As all mothers suffer to bring their children into the world, worry over them as they grow and mourn as no other when they die untimely deaths, so I try and present this perspective on Mary's journey into motherhood in “Endless Night”. I hope it enriches your Christmas celebration.

Author’s notes:
This mini operetta depicts the early morning trek to the tomb by faithful women to finish the customary burial duties for Jesus. It can be read by two people or follow script for a cast of seven. Length 8-10 minutes.
Please read Luke 23:5 and John 19: 40-42. These verses will give you a sense of the conflict between the burial customs and the beginning of the Sabbath as well as Passover.
In my opinion, the women in this script, Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary, the mother of James, probably slept fitfully. They arose on a mission to correctly complete the preparation of Jesus body for burial. If you couple the concern over this incomplete task and the fear circulating through the city among the followers of Jesus you see that these three women were truly fearless and amazing.
What better way to begin your Easter celebration than to follow these three at pre-dawn and “In the Morning”. A morning that changed us and our world forever!
